TÖR

The TÖR restaurant, featured in articles about Kazakhstan in NY Times and Conde Nast Traveller Italy, became the winner in the "Atmosphere of the Image in Restaurant Projects" category at the Architecture & Design Leaders Awards 2024.

Our task was to create a unique design concept that blends traditional Kazakh patterns with a modern interior design. We considered the unique features of the space — a glass cube without walls and elements from the previous Siro restaurant project, including the granite kitchen, which remained a key element of the interior.

The highlight of the project was the original ceiling design. We proposed three options, and the team selected the one featuring weaving transformed into pixels and stylized Kazakh ornamentation. The ornament, inspired by the restaurant’s logo, depicts four torsyks (traditional Kazakh vessels for drinks), united in a tabak (dish). We stylized it and converted it into pixels, making the design visible only from certain viewpoints. In some areas, the ornament becomes almost abstract, while in others, it is projected downward through suspended threads, evoking the process of drying yarn and adding both coziness and a unique atmosphere to the interior.
